Historical Targets
An introduction to the historical targets and practices of traditional and historical archery:
In our articles, you will find texts and information about the origins of historical archery. However, you will also see the adaptations that the T.A.I. has made for its historical tournaments. Many of the historical exercises, targets, and facility setups cannot be integrated into our tournaments in their original form. Whether due to lack of space or local laws that do not permit long-distance shots, many of these exercises are also practiced as one-day or multi-day events, such as a Puta Run or Beursault shooting, or even a Cloud or Wall, as well as Bhutanese archery on a Bo Cha field.
Introduction and giving a taste of Historical based Targets.
Our goal during a Historical Open is to give every archer a sense of all these historical and technical targets. Participants in such an event complete 24 to 28 stations in a single day. However, those who have developed a taste for specific targets and exercises can find more information in our articles.
So how does scoring work in an Historical Open?
In the traditional round, the maximum score is either 20 or 24 points, depending on the number of arrows shot. For a target where 3 arrows must be shot, the score is 1, 4, or 8 points depending on the hit zone. If all three arrows hit, the maximum score is 24. For a target where 6 arrows must be shot, the scoring is as follows: 1 point, 2 points, or 4 points; here, too, the maximum score is 24 points. For a target requiring 5 arrows, the score is 1 point, 3 points, or 5 points, meaning the maximum score is 20 points.
The same applies to technical targets. However, there are exceptions here, such as the so-called speed target, where as many arrows as possible must be shot. These are explained separately in the individual sections.
